Stars Edged By Spartans

Wed Oct 10, 2018
The Dominican University men's soccer team fell to 7-5-0 on the season and 4-3-0 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) with a 1-0 loss to the Aurora University Spartans at West Campus Field on Wednesday afternoon.  The Stars outshot the Spartans 23-11 in the loss but a restart goal for the Spartans proved to be the game's lone tally.

After a scoreless first half that saw the Stars double-up the Spartans in shots, 10-5, Aurora found the back of the goal in the 48th minute after a Dominican foul gave the Spartans a free kick from thirty yards out.  Henry Zehnal's shot slipped through the Dominican wall where Kyle Seymour was able to get to it and flicked a shot inside the near post, beating the Stars' Daniel Dominguez.

"We beat ourselves again today by giving up another bad goal after an undisciplined foul and a broken wall," said Dominican's Erick Baumann following the loss. "We have now really put ourselves in a tough spot in the standings."

With four conference games remaining, and five on the regular season, Dominican sits in fifth place in the NACC.  The Stars will look to get back on track on Saturday, traveling up to Madison, Wisconsin, to take on the Edgewood College Eagles.  Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m.
